Origin
Russian blue known as Archangel Blue is a cat breed that has existed for approximately 161 years. Originally, the breed comes from Russia. After Second World War, England, Scandinavia and USA have started developing the breed. Russian Blues bred in England differ from Scandinavian Russian Blues. In each of those regions, the breed has developed slightly differently. American type is a cross between Scandinavian and English type.
Behaviour
Russian Blue cats learn very quickly, they are smart and curious, however they do not like changes in environment. That’s why early socialisation is important in order to achieve quick adaptation in environment. At first, they might seem to be a bit shy in new place, but their curiosity will definitely take over and they will enjoy exploring new home. . They are very gentle breed, which make them perfect candidate to family with kids. As we mentioned before, they are very human dependent and they are nothing like stereotypical independent domestic cat – they follow owner step by step and they can be quite anxious alone.

TICA Standard Russian Blue
There is many different looking Russian Blues. We identify different “types” of the breed. European type tend to be darker, bigger in size, the ears are positioned like donkey ears, eyes have almond shape. Our cattery focus on American russian blues. Many people call them “alien” or “gremlin” looking because of their massive, widely spreaded ears, big, rounded eyes, bright colour of the coat, smaller body.
Are they hypoallergenic?
They are NOT hypoallergenic. They can cause allergy reaction like any other cat. In fact, there is no breed that is hypoallergenic. They produce significantly less protein called “FEL D 1” (common allergen that causes allergic reaction in people) and for some people with allergy, this breed wont cause any reactions. I always recommend to visit cattery and spend time around cats. Each person is different and the level of allergic reaction will vary.
